This is a South-Indian dish and is very delicious to serve as an accompaniment with rice or other various staple foods.

Sambar Dal


Recipe for Sambar-Dal

Ingredients

(1) Arhar dal- 100 grams
(2) Tamarind- 50 grams
(3) Mustard seeds- ¼  teaspoon
(4) Dry red chilies- 3-4 
(5) Oil- 1 tablespoon
(6) Curry leaves- 2-3 twigs
(7) Garlic- 5-6 pieces
(8) Cumin seeds- ¼ teaspoon
(9) Salt to taste
(10) Turmeric powder- ½ teaspoon
(11) Sambar powder- 1 ½ teaspoon    
(12) Brinjal- 100 grams
(13) Bottle Gourd- 100 grams
(14) Radish- 2 
(15) Drumstick- 2 
(16) Onion- 1 
(17) Brinjal- 250 grams
(18) Vegetable Oil- 100 ml or more

Method

(1) First wash and boil the arhar-dal in a bowl, cut all the vegetables into small pieces and after boiling add all the vegetables pieces. Aside keep the tamarind in the small bowl with water and squeeze it in water.

(2) Then add salt and turmeric powder.

(3) When all the vegetables are cooked and dal is melted add the tamarind water only (squeezed tamarind shouldn't be added) and let it boil for 2 minutes.

(4) Then mix sambar-powder with water and add in the sambar dal which is being cooked and boil it again for two minutes.

(5) Then heat oil in khadai, add garlic (smashed), mustard seed, cumin seed, dry chili twigs and curry leaves and then add the sambar dal which was being boiled in bowl and boil for 1 minutes.

(6) Walla! your mixed veg sambar dal is ready to be served.
